I have continually fought for lower property taxes through three means; property tax freezes, increased homeowners' tax exemptions, and greater freedom to allow local government to consolidate and streamline services. Illinois has the highest property taxes in the country. Skyrocketing property taxes are making it harder for middle class families and seniors to make ends meet. Constituents do not want to pay more state taxes either until they see government making wiser use of existing dollars, cutting expenses, eliminating waste, and reforming our state’s issues. There are many ways our state can streamline our spending and generate additional income without raising taxes. Addressing constitutionally valid pension reform, reviewing our state vendor contracts and procurement process, and completing our effort to ensure valid Medicaid eligibility are just a few examples of areas where we can direct our attention to help resolve our budget crisis.
