Some individuals believe there is no middle ground on the issue of guns, however I believe there can be. I grew up in a hunting family where my father taught me how to responsibly and safely own, carry, shoot, clean and store a gun. I have held a FOID card since I was in my 20’s. Law abiding citizens have a constitutional right to own a gun. But I do not believe that an individual with a history of mental illness should be able to purchase or gain access to a gun. Illinois needs to maintain strong background checks, close gun show loopholes, and provide superior training for conceal carry card owners.
