I support changing how we draw our legislative district boundaries every ten years after the census. Currently the majority party controls how the boundaries are changed and this has led to the questionable drawing of districts for political gain. I believe the current Illinois Fair Map Amendment and HJRCA 58, which I co-sponsored this past spring, are two superior means to drawing our legislative boundaries and would produce more competitive and fairly drawn districts. In addition to the fair map initiative, I’d like to see campaign finance reform, particularly the overturning of Citizens United to remove the influence of secret money in our elections. If we couple these two initiatives with a bill I filed on Term Limits for Leaders, Illinois would have more fair and competitive elections.
